Questions

Short answers. If yours isn't here, the privacy page covers what leaves your computer.

Moving from Lightshot

Do the shortcuts stay the same?

Mostly. Region capture is ⌘ ⇧ 9 on Mac and PrtSc on Windows and Linux, so the key you already reach for still works. Window is ⌘ ⇧ 1 (Alt + PrtSc) and full screen is ⌘ ⇧ 2 (Shift + PrtSc).

Change any of them in Settings › Shortcuts. Each one has a button to put the default back.

Can I still mark things up before copying?

Yes: arrow, line, box, pen, text, highlight, blur and numbered steps, with any stroke width and any color. Unlike Lightshot, every mark stays editable until you close the capture: click one to move it, resize it or delete it.

Can I run both while I try it?

Yes, but only one app can own a shortcut. Quit Lightshot or change its shortcut first, or give Glintshot different keys in Settings › Shortcuts.

Glintshot isn’t made by or affiliated with the makers of Lightshot.

Everything else

Does Glintshot upload my screenshots?

No. Captures stay on your computer. Copy text, Auto-redact and Smart file names read text with your system’s own engine. Only the features you set up yourself send anything anywhere, and the privacy page lists each one.

What’s free, and what does Pro add?

Everything that runs on your computer is free with no daily limits, on as many computers as you like: every capture mode including scrolling and Burst, annotation, copy, save, Send to, Share, drag out, and the AI features with your own key or a local model.

Pro is for features that need our servers: share links that last longer, and AI with no key to set up. It costs $29 a year, on up to 3 computers and browsers, and goes on sale when share links arrive.

Do the AI features need an account or credits?

No. Copy text and Auto-redact run on your computer. Ask and alt text use a model you choose in Settings › AI: a local one (Ollama or LM Studio), your own API key, or a command-line tool you already use. There are no credits to buy.

How many computers and browsers can I use Pro on?

Up to 3 places with one licence. Each computer counts as one, and so does each browser with the Glintshot extension. To move it, choose Deactivate this computer in Settings › Licence (or deactivate in the extension’s popup), then activate it on the new one.

Which systems does it run on?

macOS 13 or later (Apple silicon and Intel), Windows 10 and 11, and Linux on X11 or Wayland.

On Wayland, your desktop decides which keys reach apps, so first run shows the commands to add as keyboard shortcuts. Scrolling capture and Burst aren’t available on Wayland yet.

Why does macOS ask for Screen Recording?

macOS asks this of every app that reads the screen, screenshot apps included. Glintshot reads it only while you’re capturing. Turn it on in System Settings › Privacy & Security › Screen Recording, then reopen Glintshot.

On Windows 11, PrtSc opens the Snipping Tool. How do I fix it?

In Windows Settings › Accessibility › Keyboard, turn off “Use the Print screen key to open Snipping Tool”, then pick Glintshot’s shortcut again in its Settings. Or keep the Snipping Tool on PrtSc and give Glintshot a different key.

How do I cancel or get a refund?

Cancel anytime from Manage subscription in Settings › Licence; Pro keeps working until the end of the period you paid for. Refunds within 14 days are on the refunds page.
