Your data

Privacy

Glintshot is made by Kubicl Technologies, which is responsible for the data described on this page.

Your screenshots stay on your computer. Glintshot has no account, no cloud storage of its own and no analytics in the app. It never uploads a capture unless you choose a feature that does, described below.

What stays on your computer

  • Every capture, annotation and saved file.
  • Copy text, Auto-redact and Smart file names read text with your system's own engine (Apple Vision on macOS, Windows OCR, Tesseract on Linux).
  • Your settings.

When something leaves your computer

  • Ask about a capture and alt text, only if you set them up. With a local model (Ollama or LM Studio) nothing leaves your computer. With your own API key, the selected area goes to the provider you chose, under that provider's terms. With a custom command, it goes wherever that command sends it.
  • Send to and Share copy the image and open the app or site you picked. Glintshot itself uploads nothing; what you paste there is between you and that service.
  • Site icons: the first time the Send menu shows X, LinkedIn and Reddit, Glintshot downloads each site's icon once, from that site or the image host it uses, and keeps it. The request carries nothing about you or your captures.
  • Pro licence: activating and checking a licence sends the licence key and this computer's name to our payment provider, Lemon Squeezy, so it can count places (up to 3 in all: each computer and each browser extension).
  • Updates: Glintshot checks for a new version once a day. The request contains the app version and platform.

The browser extension

  • It works only on the page you capture, when you click its button or press its shortcut (it asks for the active tab permission, not for your browsing). Captures are kept in the browser while the editor tab is open and are deleted when it closes, and any that were stored in the browser's own database are cleared when the browser starts.
  • It has no analytics and uploads no capture. The only request it makes is the Pro licence check described above, and only if you activate Pro (the browser asks you first).

The website

This site sets no cookies. Its fonts and the walkthrough video are served from this site.

It counts visits with Cloudflare Web Analytics, which stores nothing in your browser and doesn't follow you to other sites. For each page view it records the page, the site that linked to it, your country, the kind of device, browser and system, and how fast the page loaded. We see these only as totals, not per visitor.
