How to take a scrolling screenshot of anything

A long page, a chat thread or a document that doesn’t fit on screen: scroll through it once and get one tall image.

In any app, on Mac, Windows or Linux

Glintshot’s Scrolling mode works in anything that scrolls: a chat, a settings page, a spreadsheet, a PDF viewer, a terminal.

  1. Start a capture and choose Scrolling on the mode bar.
  2. Drag over the part that scrolls, then press Start or ⏎.
  3. Scroll down at your own pace. A strip beside the area shows the image growing, and the panel shows its height.
  4. Press Done, or your capture shortcut again. The whole thing is copied.

Headers and footers that stay put are kept once, not repeated. If you scroll too fast, the panel says “Scroll a little slower” and waits for the view to line up again. Scrolling capture isn’t available on Wayland yet; it works on X11.

A whole web page, in the browser

For web pages, the Glintshot extension’s Full page mode scrolls the page for you, one view at a time, and stitches it. Headers and bars that stick to the top or bottom show once, and the page is put back the way it was. Element mode does the same for one part of a page, such as a long table.

Tips for a clean result

  • Select only the part that scrolls, not the toolbar or sidebar around it.
  • Scroll steadily with the wheel or trackpad; dragging a scrollbar jumps too far at once.
  • Close pop-ups and cookie banners first, or they’ll be in the picture.
  • Need just a few moments of something that changes, rather than one long page? Use Burst.

Questions

How long can a scrolling screenshot be?

Up to 20,000 pixels in the Glintshot app, and 16,000 pixels in the browser extension’s full-page capture.

Do the screenshot tools built into Mac and Windows do this?

As of October 2026, neither Apple’s nor Microsoft’s help pages list a scrolling mode for the built-in tools. Browsers can save a full web page, but only inside the browser.

Is it free?

Yes. Scrolling capture in Glintshot is free with no daily limit, and so are full-page captures in the extension.
